2 Year Death Anniversary of Breonna Taylor

2 years ago today, Breonna Taylor was murdered by police in the safety of her own home. While we grieve with her family and loved ones, we take a closer look at what has happened since. Justice has not been served, and so much work still needs to be done.

Updates since 2020:

  • At least three officers with connections to the raid have been terminated from the force.
  • City officials have issued a partial ban on no-knock warrants (the type of warrant that allowed police to enter Taylor’s apartment) per Breonna’s Law.

HOWEVER, none of these changes bring true justice to Breonna or her family. In fact, the bigger picture is extremely disheartening.

  • Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced that the grand jury failed to indict any of the officers for Breonna Taylor’s death; they would indict only Officer Brett Hankison with shots fired into other apartments.
  • ~285 Black people have died at the hands of police violence just in 2021.
  • Black people are twice as likely as white people to be shot and killed by police officers.

The Action:

  • History teaches us that people-powered movements are critical to transforming our communities.
  • #JusticeforBre: Demand Louisville divest from LMPD, and invest in communities.
  • We encourage all members of the community who are in POSITIONS OF POWER to donate to colorofchange.org
